I'm embarrassed to admit that I was eagerly anticipating this game, but not because I thought it would be awesome. It was more of a nostalgia factor for me, as I used to watch re-runs of The Price Is Right on CBS every weekday morning at 11am. That was about 20 years ago! It was with some hesitation that I decided to pick up the game and play it. I knew that, no matter how hard Ubisoft tried, they wouldn't be able to capture the fun of the TV show.
Right off the bat, you're greeted witch the catchy theme song, which put a huge smile on my face. Then, you choose your player (the selection is very limited, and you cannot play as your Mii). Enter your name, and you're off. Now, Ubisoft has changed the the rules slightly - normally, you would be on contestants row, bid, win, play a game, and make it to the showcase showdown, and then be finished. However, with the Wii game, you actually choose a mode that lets you keep playing until you get 3 strikes or more. I actually wound up going to the showcase showdown (and winning it!) twice in one game. I walked away with over $100,000 in prizes, including a convertible Mustang, a Corolla, a Lazyboy recliner, and a Chrysler of some sort. Not bad for my first day. The game uses some actual show clips, which I think were a nice bonus. Overall though, it has little replay value and I think most people would get bored after 1-2 hours of this. Still, as a party game, it can provide some entertainment for players of all ages. |
