Perfect for casual fans, Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir is a lot of fun at a relaxing pace. You play a detective sent to investigate the disappearance of Phil T. Rich, a millionaire. You are aided by your computer which will analyze the “clues” you locate in cluttered locations. The characters you meet all have names which are silly puns which will either have you groaning or giggling, depending how you feel about puns. If you're not expecting a huge storyline, which shouldn't be the case in this genre, then you'll be happy with the game.
If time limits stress you out, don't worry, you have plenty of time to search for the items on your list. Also available are a generous amount of hints just in case you're running out of time or just can't find those few last objects. The objects can be well hidden with similar color items such as broccoli in the bushes or a wooden bear next to the bed post. Also, expect some objects to be partially hidden behind the others. A nice touch I enjoyed were the items I had to interact with in order to fulfill the clue, such as “Sliced Bread”. I had to use the stylus to cut the loaf to satisfy the item. Some locations require the use of tools such as the flashlight or the x-ray in order to find them, also an enjoyable feature of the game. In addition to searching carefully for objects, you'll be presented with some mini-games between scenes to give you change of pace.
Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir is cute and fun and has multiple difficulty settings depending on your comfort level. Don't worry about the small screen; you simply use the stylus or D-pad to move around in the location while the entire picture is depicted in the top screen. The list of objects is also on the top screen but can be hidden easily if desired.
In short: Casual gamers and fans of the hidden objects genre will love this entry on the Nintendo DS and with the retail price of $19.99, you can't really go wrong. You get exactly what you expect with the genre plus some mini-games to keep you from getting bored.
