Game Industry Screwed; In Other News, Sky is Blue E-mail

Haven't you heard? The video game industry is, to put it mildly, suffering.  Forget the mom-and-pop stores down the street, the problem has spread so far that it's affecting developers and publishers as well. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past six months, this shouldn't come as a surprise to you.

So, what gives? People aren't buying games. Say it isn't so!  While cheap-o games and sale titles might be flying off the shelves, full-priced new releases aren't. Why pick up a game today for $60 when you can get it next month for $30?  It's going to get worse before it gets better. In the end, we'll be left with just a few mega-corporations that will have weathered the storm. Think GameStop, EA, Square Enix. Some will survive, most will not. Our days of enjoying unique and original titles from previously unknown developers may be at an end. It'll take time for the market to rebuild itself - probably 3 or 4 years. So if you've got some cash, invest in those giant corporations that will pull through this and you're bound to make a killing when things turn back up. Just watch out for all the bodies along the way.
