More Retailers Join in on $100 PS3 Price Cut E-mail
Written by Zombone

Yesterday, we told you about Dell's $100 PS3 price cut, which was indicative of an industry-wide price drop on the horizon. Today, GameStop has followed suit. Trade in your old PS2, and get $100 off an 80GB PS3. Like we said yesterday; this is an indicator of retailers clearing out their inventory before the "official" price drop is handed down by Sony. Expect more retailers to follow suit over the coming weeks.

Call it what you will - a sale, price drop, or clearance - but the PlayStation 3 has finally seen a much-needed price cut.  As we promised weeks ago, you can now get a PS3 80GB for a mere $299 at Dell.  Fear not, other retailers will follow. When "instant savings" like this happen, it's retailers trying to get a jump on an upcoming price drop to clear out their stock.

Left 4 Dead GOTY Revealed E-mail

Will you be picking up the upcoming Left 4 Dead: Game of the Year Edition?  GameStop's listing for the game shows a release date of 5/5, which seems awfully soon considering the original released a mere six months ago.

So, what's new in the money-grubbing GOTY edition?  Hmm.. all the extra content you can get anyway for free, you say?  The Survival Pack, which is included in the GOTY version, can be downloaded free of charge from Xbox Live. So, if you already own the game, don't even think of picking up this Valve-whores-for-money version. If you've never picked up a copy, then this is the one to get. Just keep in mind that in six months, we may see a Game of the Year Extra Edition or something.

Haven't you heard? The video game industry is, to put it mildly, suffering.  Forget the mom-and-pop stores down the street, the problem has spread so far that it's affecting developers and publishers as well. Unless you've been living under a rock for the past six months, this shouldn't come as a surprise to you.

Uncharted 2 Demo Possibly on InFamous Disk? E-mail

Uncharted fans, take note. Rumor has it that a demo of the upcoming Uncharted: Among Thieves may be lurking on the InFamous disk releasing next month. If this is true, we say kudos to Sony for giving fans a chance to take a look at one of 2009's most anticipated games.  This type of "bonus" is way better than those lame pre-order extras they normally give away. Put it on the disk. End of story.

So, let's see how it plays out. Sony's big announcement regarding Uncharted 2 is coming next week - let's hope we're right!

Amazon Now Offering Digital Wii Ware Titles E-mail

It was just a few short weeks ago that we told you about Amazon's new offerings of Xbox Live Marketplace games.  Now, the mega retailer has gone one step further by offering Wii Ware titles as well. Those who don't like the idea of sharing their credit card information with Nintendo or Microsoft will no doubt enjoy being able to purchase these games directly from Amazon, a company that most of us have shopped from in the past.

I think this is a great idea and it gives people alternatives. Alternatives are good for consumers - it keeps a healthy competition and allows the consumer to decide where they're going to purchase their games. In the end, the money ends up in the same place, but at least it gives the impression of having a choice.

Fallout 4 Expected Next Year E-mail

Great news, Fallout fans! The next Fallout, which we're going to call Fallout 4, should be hitting store shelves next year. While it's not an official sequel to last year's Fallout 3, I think it's safe to say that much of the game will remain the same, and it'll likely use the same engine.

Fallout: Las Vegas will be releasing on the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Sorry Wii fans, your console can't handle a title this great!

Fact: March Was a Horrible Month for Video Games E-mail

Haven't you heard? March was a horrible month for video game sales. Traditionally, the spring isn't the best time for sales as a whole, but this particular March was even more dismal than the rest.

We know the economy is in the shitter. But video games are recession proof, right?

Just to give you an idea of how bad March was, let's look at Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars and Mad World. Two highly anticipated games. Each sold less than 100,000 copies in the first month, which is really, really shitty.  Compare that to last April, for example, when GTA4 moved over 2 million copies in the first month. Surely the DS spin-off should have cracked half a mil, no? Nope.

Valve fans might want to take note of the new Survival Pack coming next week to Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network. The DLC pack will be free, which is a nice change. However, don't expect any new campaigns, just some new modes and a handful of other enhancements. If you want the whole low-down, check out Valve's Blog.

Time Warner Backing Off of Bandwidth Quotas E-mail

Oh, Time Warner. First the media conglomerate decides it's going to start charging consumers based on their bandwidth usage, and now they've changed their mind. It's pretty clear that they've received some hefty backlash from customers who aren't too keen on the new plan. Basically, the more you download, the more you pay.  But is it fair?

Let's say you're an average Joe or Jane who uses their $50/month unlimited plan to check their email and browse the occasional website. Should that customer pay the same as your Word of Warcraft player, or your torrent downloader?  I'll admit I download between 10-20GB of data every month. I pay less for bandwidth than some friends of mine, who are very light users. In the scheme of things, I guess I should be paying more.

Regardless, unlimited for one set price seems the fairest option. Kind of like an all-you-can-eat buffet, or free refills on your iced tea.
